My arms are getting a little flabby latley and I would like to tone them up a bit. Is it safe to do arm exercises with 2 3pound weights when I am 26 weeks along. The only exercise I have been doing is walking and that is doing nothing for my arms.

Double check with your OB, but some light toning with light weights should be safe.

Generally you dont want to start a new routine once you're pregnant, as it puts too much stress on the body. I bed walking with the weights, or just pumping your arms while walking would help.

Try yoga, most poses are safe when pregnant and it really helps to tone your muscles.

hi there, always check with your doctor, as everyone says. but, i have been lifting 5-15 lb hand weights and i am 21 weeks along. another thing that tones your arms is yoga - if you can get a tape or go to a class, it is gentler than using weights if you are new to weightlifting. i also read on fitpregnancy.com that you can do pushups leaning against a wall, that seems like an easy enough exercise throughout pregnancy.

That's a question for your doc. all of them are different. I'm an LPN at a nursing home and although I don't do as much lifting as the CNA's I am still expected to lift at times. My doc. will not let me lift more than 25lbs and i'm 31wks pregnant. Some say no more than 50 and some say it depends on what kind of lifting you're doing.

It's always best to double check with your physician before starting any exercise routine. However, if you are only lifting 2-3 lbs., I think you are fine. My daughter is 26 lbs. and I am lifting her all the time. I've heard that pilates and yoga can help tone and are both good during pregnancy for stretching, helping with lower back pain and can make delivery and recovery easier. I just ordered a few DVD's that are specifically for pregnancy. I'm hoping they will help me. Good luck!

Unless you have been on a regular excercise program your entire pregnancy, it would not be wise to start one now. Consult your OBGYN first and foremost, if he/she ok's a program then try doing excercises specifically designed for pregnant woman.

Try swimming....that is a great workout. It's cardio, plus resistance training....you can REALLY work your arms muscles from swimming...plus you have the benefit of NO impact on your body and it will give your aching back and hips a break!

Whatever new excercise you want to start, always check with your OBGYN first.

Good luck!

PS. Keep walking! That is great for you, even if it's not helping your arms!

Yes you can use the 2 3 pound weights unless your doctor tells you otherwise. You are not suppose to lift more than 10 pounds when you are pregnant, but if you are having a normal heathy pregnancy, then I don't see why not. I hope this helped.

2-3lb weights should be fine, I was doing 5lb weights for my arms because they are getting flabby, too! I hate that, I am 28 weeks and soon enough I am going to be wearing short sleeved/sleevless shirts and I don't want fat a** arms! I am starting to really hate it! As long as you don't pressure yourself to do more than you can handle, go for it! Good Luck

Do not lift to heavy pounds...start of with like 10-15...you do not want to hurt the babby or yourself. Cut out a lot of suger and that will help with your arms...also it is comman to gain a lot of wait when you r pregnant...that is healthy for the babby. Do not stop eating though....good luck
