Silence is needed when you really can't explain things to your friend. Sometimes silence will explain and make things clearly to your friend. Self-conscience will help you both to understand better in silence. Sometimes words are useless, especially sentences. They don't stand for anything. And silence is the best and perfect way to explain yourself.
For those who truly appreciate silence in theirselves are those who are really thoughtful, wise, meaningful and profound as a human being..... Take a look to all those talkative, noisy, annoying, crabby and big mouth people (such as most Americans are -for example), they are always shallow, narrow, phony and superficial in the way they think and view things in this life....

Silence is the result of the absence of noise.

By definition silence is the absence of noise, so it can't be a noise itself.

Hello darkness, my old friend,
Ive come to talk with you again,
Because a vision softly creeping,
Left its seeds while I was sleeping,
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence.

Silence is silence. No noise. Because these days we are so immune to silence as humans, perhaps you (or your friend) feels his/her ears are ringing or buzzing, simply because they don't know what silence is supposed to be and are unused to it.

Not to me. It "sounds" like the absence of sound. They say that when you talk less, your I.Q. shoots up 20 points! Then new acquaintances assume you are "above the fray". Quieter people also appear as if they are thinking a lot, which might not be the case!!
