There is case for the three strikes law
But, there is also case for this law to be considerably more comprehensive in it's terms and application !
There is NO good case for the arbitrary application of law that allows people to be jailed for life with anything short of felony infractions !!
If at it's base "the law" needs respect from the people it governs--that law should be wielded with some sense of fairness at all levels ! It must serve the people who ARE the society at large and protect them from serious and repeat offenders while at the same time be balanced in its judication with reasonable applied balance OF punishment fitting the crime
In certain applications of this law in recent times-- it has been a wonderment to me that civil justice lawyers and Constitutional Specialists have not had a field day with motions against the way that it is written and applied for no other reason than the Constitutional Right of any individual to punishment being dealt out that is not " unreasonable" or " unusual"---because there have been individuals receive life sentences because their third infraction of this law was nothing more than a shoplifting charge !!
However, if an individual commits a third felony offense and is convicted of that crime--- there should be no hesitation at all by the law to see to it that this individual is placed in a situation where they are guaranteed no opportunity to continue to harm society at large !!!

Not for petty crimes like weed possession, stealing a 6 pack of beer when you're 16, a bar fight, etc. But drug DEALERS, killers, murderers, rapists, robbers, embezzlers, terrorists, molesters, etc SHOULD have only three chances. If you ask me three is still too many because it means that three innocent people have been harmed by this sorry excuse for a sack of flesh. At some point we MUST say enough is enough and you are not fit to live among decent people anymore.

I would also like to add though that if you "mess up" three "petty" times you are clearly a danger to society. You KNOW what is wrong and yet you continue to behave in that manner... I'm not sure I feel too bad for you anymore.

No, because you could be drunk and do something stupid and have to spend the rest of your life in prison for it.

Example: you are a drunk pedestrian and another drunk driving a car nearly runs over you, so you kick the car as it passes. They press charges because of the damage, felony criminal mischief. You spend the rest of your life in prison for being provoked by someone else.

No! I think there should be a 2-strike law. Do it once, you're forgiven - do it twice and its a pattern and you go away.

There should be no place in our society for lawlessness.....I say lock 'em up, force them to work in the public arena during the day and lock them up at night.
