No, around the country there are M-Dec centres that electronically sort the mail. Basically the addresses are scanned onto a computer system, this info is then sent to one of the m-dec centres where data inputers highlight the addresses, and turn them the right way etc, the letters are then electronically sorted to areas. The re-direct system automatically recognises the old address and then readdresses it and sends it to the correct place.
I am not very good at explaining things and hope that this helps you.

You have to go to your local post/sorting office and fill out a form. It costs, but dont know how much. Your mail is then re-directed from there, to your new address for a minimum of 3 months.. Better to let everyone you know your new address.

You fill out a form and pay your money. Royal Mail then re-direct your post - it's as simple as that! Look at their website or visit your local Post Office for more information or the form.

I take it this is a serious Question. They send it to what ever address has been put on the envolope. If you move and don't tell people who send you mail it will continue to go to your former address and the person living there will get it and may return it to the post office or throw it in the bin.

You go to the post office, fill in a form, pay a fee then they forward your mail.
Every house has it's own sorting space in the sorting office so they can pick out just your mail.

When you have registered to have post re-directed then it will be sorted by your local postie who will have been warned about a new address and he passes the mail to the appropriate section for re-delivery. That's why you have to pay for this service.
