First verify if you can connect to your home network. If so, go to start, run, enter cmd, depending on the operating system, or enter command, and type ping xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx where the x's are the ip address of the router. If you get a reply that means there is connection. Verify that the properties for the NIC are getting an IP address by DHCP and not static, in the case that the router is assigning these IP's. If you can ping the router then it is a matter of working with the settings of the NIC. If no reply is sent then you should verify that your NIC is properly. Hope this helps.

Verfiy that the proper drivers for your NIC are loaded - look in device manager. DO you have a DHCP server? If so, verify that your computer has obtained a valid IP for your subnet. Check the workgrup and make sure it is the same as your other computers. Also, be sure your gateway and DNS settings are the same as other computers.

the main problem is usually configuration of the main p.c.

There is a network configuration wizard in win xp. simply run the wizard (i think its in control panel) and it will create a network disk for you. Pop the disk into each p.c on the network and it should configure them all for you.

Just make sure any firewall programs are allowing network connections.
