I told her my opinion, and I said it looks weird and is suitable for a young person, like 6 or 7. She likes colourful stuff like that, so I think she may buy it.

She's 19 turning 20 this year, what do you lot think? Am I just moaning for no reason or do I have a point?

im 22 and i like those converse!! I know were you are coming from (the rainbow and that), but I think that you will have to trust her judgement and go with it. Besides, I think they will look different when she has them on in the context of an outfit!!! She's experimenting and following her peers grungy vibe. Just roll with it. when she's 21 she prob wouldnt be caught dead in them, but you already know that!! Enjoy her funkiness while it lasts!!

Mom, when our Kids reach a certain age you can hang it up trying to dress them. They have their own likes and honestly peer pressure plays a major role in how they dress. The best thing you can do, is let her pick out her own clothes as long as they are decent, meaning the skirts are not too short and the blouses are not cut too low. I am a Mom also and I would put my foot down on some things, but honestly at almost 20 years old shes an Adult now..

Don't you find that a lot of young people in their late teens and early twenties go through a phase where 'kiddish' things appeal to them again. I'm 42 now and can remember when I was 17/18 having a thing about the Mr Men (bedroom door sign, a4 files, pencil case etc). My niece had a thing for sooty and sweep when she was in the 6th form. I think its about being a bit kooky at that age (either that or my family is full of nutters!!). I still love Basil Brush (the original one) and feel very old when I see Mr Derek in Heartbeat.

They're actually considered fashionable items to have and many people (adults) who I know, wear converses. MAybe not as colourful, but they are in their thrities. If she's turning 20 this year, then they're fine for her. I have never seen a 6 or 7 year old wear converses. Plus, you can never be too old or too young to wear anything - create your own style.

hey kikiy2k5,

first of all, let me say that sneakers, especially Converse, suit kids and adults alike.. i took a look at the link you posted, and well, i give props to your daughter for having good taste!
i myself would wear it. to tell u what, i'm 20 years old now. turned 20 last september. a lot of people are wearing it right now so, it's pretty normal for our generation.

the hi-tops looked bright and colorful. maybe she liked it because she believes in the saying "You are what you wear." She probably would like to be known as a bright and fun person. Kinda like the rainbow design of the shoe.

Converse are "in" right now. not only that but it's easy to mix and match with clothes. You can use it with a skirt, cropped shorts or pants.

Give it a chance (^_~)

your daughter is 19!
Unless you are forking over the money I don't think you really have a say in what she wears.

If that is her style then that's her choice I am sure over the years it will change. I know my mom didn't necessarily like my clothing choices in my early twenties but she wasn't paying for my clothes. If the only thing you have a complaint about is her choice of shoes you are pretty well off some parents of 19 year olds have serious problems to deal with. Consider yourself lucky, who cares what other people think..there only shoes!

I'm 21, and would never even think of wearing those. But let her learn from her mistakes. I laugh every time I look at pictures of when I was in Jr. High with big bangs. My mom used to tell me it looked bad, but I thought I was soooo cool, and would never want to listen to HER opinion. Now I wish she wouldn't have let me out of the house looking like that! Haha! She will learn eventually. Just let her get through her phase :)

Im 20 & wouldnt wear anything like that. People should stop wearing those shoes when they are in high school unless they are in a band or something. But thats just my opinion & if it makes her happy I guess just let her wear them. I hope this helps! :)
