I shot a 36 minute home movie that I wanted to burn to disc, both cd and dvd. The problem is that the movie is too large to burn to a 700 mb cd and 4.7 gb dvd. Is this normal and desides buying new discs, is there a quick fix?

you could use a compressor to make the file much smaller... depending what editor you used some have them in there to use but if not quicktime has a compressor and there are others this will help get that file size way down...

Yes there is a secret... you must perform the initiation ritual of the Home-Movie-burning clan by sacrificing two virgins. In return you will get a DVD and a CD of your movie.

Okay so maybe not that easy. When you say burn to disc, I'm guessing you mean that you want to watch it on your tv. This means that you will need a DVD authoring program. Windows Movie Maker can't do that, and it can only burn files to CDs (so you won't be able to watch it on your TV). A program like nero is good, but I suggest Adobe Premiere Elements, which costs $99 (okay, basically $100). It's a video editing/dvd authoring program, so you can edit your videos and burn them to DVD or CD with menus, and all that fancy stuff. The only other option I could think of was Nero, but it's not even worth buying when compared to Premiere Elements. Basically, it'll cost you some money now, but it'll make your life easier later. Hope this helps!

You could buy a file splitter program, depending on what type of file the movie is in (mpeg, avi, etc). I have an AVI file splitter and basically you just cut the movie in half or whatever pieces in order to fit it onto more than one disc.
