My Mom works for a locksmiths... she answers calls from insurance helpdesks and dispatchs locksmiths to people that are locked out etc.
She works from home as she covers the unsocial hours in the evening/early morning.
Her company gave her a computer, broadband connection and a phone line and off she went.

There are a LOT of scams out there. My best recommendation is to look in the more traditional channels--- headhunters, monster.com, etc--- as if you were looking for a go-to-the-office job, but specificially name telecommuting as one of your job requirements. Many companies will hire telecommuters; you might have to spend your first 90 days or so working in the office until you're trained and know the company's policies and procedures, or start out with 3 days in the office each week and 2 at home, or something like that, but it is worth it if you end up in a working-at-home position with a reliable employer. Also you'd be an employee and not working for yourself or working as a subcontractor--- you get benefits!

You've got the computer at home - you should get a web designer to set up a website to do with your interests & make money out of doing something you love.
