I'm suffering from subluxation and its making the muscles around my ribs spasm. I worried that if i go to my GP she won't give me a sicknote as she doesn't believe in chiropractors and suggests all i need is some physio. Chiropractors are doctors in their own right aren't they?

Chiropractors CAN give out sick notes!

If your boss refuses to accept the sick note your boss can be sued. Just tell your Chiropractor if you have any problems. Your employer doesn't want your chiropractor to file charges. At the same time your chiropractor should not be handing out sick notes unless there is a valid reason because your chiropractor can be sued for malpractice.

In the UK most chiropractors are not doctors in the sense that GPs are doctors so cannot give out sick notes.

They may have the name Dr so and so but this is not the same as being a medical doctor. Loads of people have Dr qualifications (Phd) in a range of subjects from golf course design to media studies- they sure as hell cannot issue sick notes.

This applies to the UK. I have no idea about other countries. The problem is ANYONE in the uk can call themselves a chiropractor
.
If it were posible for chiropractors to issue sick notes I could put up a sign on my door ( Dr fred bloggs chiropractor ) and issue sick notes.

Chiropractors are in fact doctors in the US thats why they have DC after their name. Yes they can give you a note, yes your boss/principal must accept it. The only thing a chiro cannot do is prescribe medication as they are drugless practitioners

Yes Chiropractors are doctors. I beleive it's federal law that makes them able to give out "sick" notes. Talk to your boss/principal.

I got a note from a chiro, and my job told me the company does'nt accept notes from them. They never told me that before I went and they knew I was going. I then found out that my states laws say you can't exclude chiros and have to accept notes from any licensed physician, and a chiro is a licensed physician. I ultimately lost my job over a heated argument, but check your states laws( the chiro can let you know) and see if the note should be accepted.

the question isn't so much can they give you a note (they can give you anything in writing), but will your boss accept the note? like a kid skips school and has his older brother write the excuse. not quite acceptable.
