I think that my hamster has a hematoma. It is attached to her belly button, about 11/2 in long 1/16 wide and dk red. I cannot find a vet in our area that takes hamsters. Has anyone had the same experience. Will it absorb back or will she die from this. If I can get to the vet, I know it will be very expensive esp. if they cannot do anything, so I am hoping I can find someone with a similar situation to get advice before I spend a fortune. I just noticed it..she did not have it two days ago. She is only a couple of months old. Thanks for any help.

this sounds exactly like what my dwarf hamster had. if it's dark red, very circular and there is balding in that area it might be that same thing. it occured very fast and it was also very large in comparison to her body size. it didn't look like it hurt when she moved and she was able to go about her everyday business. after some research i thought it was a cyst, which can be removed through draining the area of blood. however, when we took her to the vet we found out that it was a solid mass (a tumor) and there was nothing that could be done since surgery on such a small animal is very risky and the tumor had grown too large to operate on. we ended up having to put her down :(. she was also only a couple months old when this happened. i would search up on the internet for the nearest vet clinic. call all the ones in your area and ask if they do work on small animals. i ended up calling about 30 different clinics before being able to find one that would be able to help.
