He's trying to keep you on stand-by (trying to see if he still has power over you). If he really felt that way, he'd get a ring, propose, and shout it from the mountain-top BEFORE you get married to somebody else.
His comment is just one of many in the "guy's things to say" arsenal. Trust me, I'm a guy.
You should reply to him with "Yep, you blew it, so I moved on to bigger & better things."

Dont let it wreck your head too much. If he'd wanted you he would have made sure he got you. Men will move heaven and earth to reconnect if they really want to or are capable of it. Who knows? Why do you care? Obviously you were important in his life, and maybe he's doing a review of past relationships as part of his personal evolution. I've done that before.
But you should move forward, not backward, so even if he needs to revisit things to get it straight in his own head, that's his problem, so don't make it yours.
In short, "that's nice. Hope he learned something".

Men tend to just say what they think, don't try and read something into it that is not there. Take it for what it says,the person still thinks about you alot. Probably because he's not getting any sex right now and thinks that by sweet talking you then he will get it with you.

I'd say he wants you back. If the relationship was pretty good. Maybe he has realized he messed up? If not, leave it alone.

IF HE WAS TRULY SORRY, THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN MORE HEARTFELT INTO IT THAN 2 LINES. HE'S USING THE EASY WAY OUT AND HOPING YOU CONTACT HIM AGAIN BECAUSE OF HIS EGO. SOUNDS LIKE A JERK.
