I've been out of the loop lately with desktop publishing. Just got back into it and can't find free fonts online like there used to be. Did something happen in the industry? I can't find sites but I really have to search for them - they used to be everywhere!

The smaller 'foundries' are doing a lot of paid work these days for designers. Generally I just work off dafont.com and look for the ones with free licences for my work at a non-profit.

In general there is no one source for such fonts. There are some scattered sources of good quality free fonts out there.

These sites list fonts with no-fee licenses:
