Whaling in those countries and Norway is a major source of income and has been part of the way of life of those countries for centuries. Who are we to say whether they are allowed to do it or not?

It is great to hear of someone else who disagrees with whaling as much as I do. Looking at the other answers there are a lot of people who couldn't care less in this world. Apart from joining Greenpeace or signing every petition we can against whaling I don't know what we can do to prevent it. I don't believe that we will ever get near the whaling ship companies. All we can do is keep going and do what we can. Good luck!

I couldn't believe that Japan still has, not a ship but a fleet of whaling vessels. When I was in school 20 years ago, I t seemed a matter of common sense to outlaw all whaling, and I was under the impression that it had been made illegal. WoW. another let-down. Maybe we should change maritime law to state that no vessel should respond to a distress signal from a known whaling ship, no matter the country of origin. No, that will never happen, because we care more about a boatfull of blood thirsty greed-driven fishermen than a whole species of animals. This is so f'd up I would be surprised if it isn't G.W's fault somehow.

Nighthawk is talking through his head. By agreements, nations would stop whale hunting until stocks were rebuilt. The exception being for 'research'. Japan, with it's massive whaling fleet, insist that their catches are for this purpose, despite strong evidence to the contrary.
The fire aboard the Nisshan Maru off Antarctica at this present moment - the ship is carrying over 1,000 tonnes of fuel, and dangerous chemicals - threatens the whole continent.
I feel as strongly as you about the total inability of the world community to do anything constructive about stopping this.
If you have any photos of whales - save them for your children and grandchildren to see. That is all they are gonna get.

Why is it that if there is something we don't eat or do but another country does then they are automatically wrong. If the Japanese like whale meat let them get on with it ,if the chinese eat dogs then let them.Looking at the amount of dogs roaming around where I live it wouldn't be a bad idea here.
Worse things to worry about in this world than a few whales

did no longer you adore it whilst that Whaling deliver ran over and overwhelmed that boat from the wing nut protesters . i comprehend I did. i think of the Whaling ships could convey firearms and shoot human beings on the protest deliver, as an act of self protection, by using fact the protesters attempt to break the whaling ships.

What do you mean "do about it"? There is nothing wrong with some whaling and certain countries rely on whaling as a major source of income. Plus, most of the whales that htey hunt aren't endangered... no seafarer is going to fish/whale themselves out of a job.
