First of all Congrautlations - I too am having a girl due June 13
I am 23 weeks 1 day, From everything I have read and from what my doctor tells me. The likelyhood of having a downs baby at your age is not very likely at all. I would relax and enjoy.

Raw data suggests that a woman's chances of spontanteously conceiving a baby with Down Syndrome whilst she is in her early twenties is about 1 in 2000.
But lets put this a less scary sounding way - you have a 99.95% chance of NOT delivering a baby with Down Syndrome.
Down Syndrome is not a genetic disorder that is "carried" by either of the parents, it is a spontaneous genetic mutation. It can happen to anyone, any time, and does not run in families. The biggest risk factor in Down Syndrome if the age of the mother - the older she is the greater the risk.
Your doctor, midwife or genetic counsellor should be able to answer all of your questions.
Best of luck.

CONGRATS!!!! I'm having a girl too!! I think they are so precious and so sweet...my husband and I are THRILLED to be having a little girl. CONGRATS CONGRATS!!! :)
The likelyhood of having a baby with down syndrome is quite small since you're in your early 20's...it's more of a worry once you hit mid 30's...You're early 20's is the best time to have a baby - it's a woman's prime child bearing age (in terms of your body). Chances are you are more than likely going to have a perfectly healthy baby.
Good luck!

The older you get the move likely you are. I would do some Google searches on Down syndrome. please don't be worried! I had my first child when I was 27 and I was all upset that he was going to have downsyndrome. Most down syndrome cases are in late 30's or early 40's. Please also, if you ever have a child with down syndrome, don't abort it! It deserves to live as much as a regular one.
NO NEED TO BE WORRIED! Lastly, talk to your doctor!
Best of luck!

Down syndrome chances are very low for your age. Mostly happens when mother is in upper 30s or into 40s.

I'd say your chances aren't high, but if it turns out that your little girl has down's syndrome, it shouldn't upset you. She is still your child, your flesh and blood, and is bound become the sweetest person you'll ever know.
And congrats!

they can do a blood test to tell if you are a carrier... some people are born with the gene but it doesn't show up until they have children... i wouldn't worry too much though.
Good Luck
