This can be caused by so many different things. The first to check is for a virus of malware. You can use the online virus and malware check form Symantec Norton.

If it doesn't detect anything, it could be a hardware or software problem. To check this, turn you computer off when this happens and restart it immediately. If it works, you likely have a software problem. If it doesn't work, let it cool down when its off for 30min or so, then start it up. If it works now, this would likely indicate a hardware problem.

For software problems, check to see if your computer is set to turn off the screen and peripherals after a certain period of inactivity (in power management). On many computers, this becomes faulty with time. It stops checking if someone is using the computer and/or looses the ability to restart the peripherals. Other software problems are hard to diagnostic.

For hardware problems, check for dust in you tower and clean it with a pressure canister made for that. You might need a new or more powerful fan also. If your computer is getting old, it could simply be you computer "dying". In this case, there isn't much to do except replace the problem part if possible.

Hope this helps

Sorry, but it would be helpful if you told us what type of computer (ie PC, Mac) you were using and the operating system you are using. IE if you have a PC and are running MS Windows, boot up on safe mode and re-install the video drivers then set the video driver to auto detect the monitor's frequency. As for the keyboard, there may be nothing wrong with the keyboard, could try pressing the Num Lock key after you have switched on the computer, if that light doesn't come on then I am a baffled as you are. Sorry I could not be any more help and I do not know anything about Macs.

There is always a good chance it is malware whenever you have Windows. However, that sounds more like an overheating problem to me. You may have accumulated a bunch of dust, which creates a blanket keeping the heat in, and your computer is likely set to shut down if it gets too hot. Then, in 10 minutes, after it cools it will start again. Blow the dust out, especially in the processor fins and see if that does not fix the problem. If you have fans that are not working it will also cause it. Replace them, as necessary.

Which OS? This sounds like either spyware /malware or an overheating problem with the motherboard. :-)=
