Watch the Tarheels play. They have strobe lights mounted on the ceiling that go off randomly. I think they practice like that, and if they do and they're opponents don't it may put them at an advantage.

The lights go off randomly DURING THE GAME -- I've been to a couple of games this season (you can see it on TV too). NOT CAMERA FLASHES.

I've been to plenty of games there and haven't seen that. Are you sure you're not thinking about just the photographer's cameras going off???

Uh...Some high profile college teams have strobe lights...They used to turn down the lights and use the strobe lights during player intros when the likes of Michael Jordan were there...It built up the crowds anticipation of seeing Jordan, etc...Most NBA teams turn down the lights during player intros...
