7+x/2=5/8

(7 - 7) + x/2 = (5/8 -7)
(0) + x/2 = (5/8 - 7 * 8/8)
x/2 = ( (5-56)/8 )
x/2 = (-51/8)
x ( 1/2) = (-51/8)
x (1/2 * 2 ) = ( (-51/8) * 2 )
x ( 1 ) = ( -51 * 1/8 * 2 )
x = ( -51 * 2/8 )
x = ( -51 * 1/4 )
x = (-51/4)

Is 51 a prime number? No
17 * 3 = 51

Is 17 or 3 divisible by 4 to allow reducing the fraction? No

The answer is x = (-51/4)

If you don't like working with fractions, then multiply both sides of the equation by the largest denominator.
8 ( 7 + x/2 ) = ( 5/8 ) ( 8 )
that will give you
56 + 4x = 5
subtract 56 from both sides
4x = -51
now divide by the coefficient of x
x = - 51 / 4

if fractions don't bother you then subtract 7 from both sides of the equation
x/2 = - 51 / 8
next multiply both sides by the denominator of the variable
x = - 51 / 4

same answer....depends on what you like to do fractions or not!
