We are now ruled by two men only. Tony Blair and Gordon Brown. If that is not an oligarchy I don't know what is. Tony Blair is delusional and arrogant and never listens to anyone. Gordon Brown is ruthless and arrogant and never listens to anyone. They are already spinning this petition by saying that the public needs 'educating' on this matter. Let's just hope that they are punished by the electorate at the next election.

There never was any Democracy. Like any of the controlling regimes. Freedom is just an illusion. The only difference between a constitutional Government and a Totalitarian one is that you don't disappear for voicing your opinion. The only say that you have that does change anything is which of the parties you want to govern us. Apart from that, they are all the same. In reality the country isn't run by government, it is run by the bureaucrats and civil servants that supply them with the paperwork on what to do. Let's face it, if you look at the credentials for most government politicians that are running our country, they are not exactly qualified. My own personnel opinion is that the government posts should be filled by personnel qualified in the field in which they hold the post. The Chinese did it well for a 1000 years. Fine, if you tried to buck the system you got your head chopped off. But it still can work without the loss of freedom that came with their hierarchy.

Yes, I can tell you what happened to the democracy. The president stated "The Constitution is nothing more than a god damn piece of paper." That was in Nov., 2005. That came from a president that was illegally re-elected(fact...not hearsay).
Also....your democracy ended when the Patriot Acts were signed.
Not familiar with road pricing? But are you aware of the Trans-Texas Super Corridor and the NASCO project? That is a very major highway project connecting Mexico, the US and Canada...so when the North American Union Agreement is finalized...we will become one nation.
Hope this has helped. God have mercy on us all!

I signed that document also.
Unfortunately the people elected a spurious government who is rotten to the core doing things to promote their self interest.
This country is not governed by Referendum or Petition & the government can do whatever they want providing it is passed by Parliament & the House of Lords,
Again once Laws are made they are very rarely repealled.
We could arrange a civil war as this rotten to the core government have mismanaged ouir once Great Britain.
The thugs in power have divided this nation & our people will suffer for many years to come.
You will find very many more devious deeds coming out over the next few years all at cost of the taxpayer.

1 million people marched on London to protest against Britain going into Iraq, that's more effort than signing a petition on the Internet, but that didn't convince Mr Blair. Nuff said !!
I don't agree with road pricing, mainly because it's just another way for Brown to tax us, as is all this 'Green Tax'. But i wouldn't waste my time filling in a useless petition. It'll probably be sold on for Market Research !

What is road pricing? Second, the way democracy works, you don't sign things to get things changed, you have representatives you elect, and if you don't like what they do, you vote for someone else. Signing a petition can be persuasive, but it is by no means something they have to follow, they represent you, so write to them directly. If you made the decisions, wouldn't that defeat the purpose of a representative democracy?

Hasn't this been the policy of Blair and his Ministers - ignore the wishes of the majority? They know best. If they are not pursuaded by the biggest single petition - on it's own website! - in living memory, then they are never going to take notice.
The only answer lies in the vote of the electorate at the next elections.
(And I have voted Labour for 40 years!)

This is how democracy should work. I million people want to do it one way, lets call it A, the rest of the people want to do it another way, call it B, and there are a lot more than 1 million of them. So, we do B, because that is what the majority want. Democracy in action!
While 1 million may seem like a lot, it is not a majority. What I think you are saying is, you want your way regardless of how many people are against it. That is not democracy.

It is not cut and dried that the petition will be ignored. The 'decision makers' in the Government cannot even decide at this stage. I think the whole system (electronic petitions) will and has become an embarrasment for them. How long until they scrub it? What's the point of them if, with 1m+ they ignore them.
OK. Ignore it at your peril. The voter will have the final say..........

The government giving up on a tax are you serious.
They just repeal a tax for the Spanish America War on our phone bill.
How long do you think it will take before they pull that tax.
Democrates now even what to raise taxes again.
Nice try.
