My hubby and I are trying to conceive. My cycle has been off since I stopped b.c. pill in oct. I missed nov. dec cycle, had period in jan. and feb is late, it should have come before we tried to conceive. Since i can't really calculate b/c of irregularity, what is the earliest i can test, and get most accurate result?

If you do not chart or monitor your fertility in any way, and you think you may have conceived, you should wait 19 days (or longer) after having sex to test. Why 19?! Sperm can live approximately 5 days in the proper environment; if the sperm managed to live until you popped an egg, the actual conception could have taken place several days after the sex act that got the sperm there. To make sure you're not testing too early, assume the sperm had very long lives (5 days is considered a very long sperm life) and that conception occurred then. Then allow 14 days for the embryo to implant and develop enough hCG to show up on a pregnancy test (96% of pregnant women will test positive by then.)

You can try a urine test now and if no positive, then wait for a couple of weeks and try again if still no period. If period was irregular before taking the pill - you're probably in for a tough time figuring out when to test and will just have to try periodically, but if irregularity is a result of coming off the pill, then your body should be regulating itself back to normal and knowing when to test will be lots easier.

I would test after 30 days since your last period - and if this is negative - try again in about a week or so.

It is possible your body hasnt regualted itself yet - it can take between 3 and 6 months (sometimes longer)

Just be patient

I believe tests recommend a 2-3 week wait after a late cycle.

But doctors like you to wait a month before they'll give you one..
