i sense annoyance, and understand exactly what u feel.I cant put myself into any category,ie liberal or conservative. The reason for this is that most influential people have polarized view.Unfortunately in most western democracies those who want to influence change and are in the public, political sphere rely on the backing of a hardcore of supporters. These supporters are passionate and mostly stubborn about there beliefs on any particular issue. It is such people who are consistantly studying ,talking and trying to put there opinions forward. So those who rely on the support of such people have to make sure of their continued support by sticking to their extreme line.
People like me on the other hand are not too passionate about most issues and like to consider all sides before reaching an opinion.Even when i reach an opinon on say global warming,i can understand the reasoning behind the opposing opinion. It is abit difficult for a political person to represent my opinion because they would come across as unsure of themselves, and sitting on the fence.
It is abit like negotiating a price for a car.You have to ask for above what u actually want in the hope u will get as close to your asking price. No one wants to say what they actually want for fear of loosing ground.
my opinions on your three examples.
GLOBAL WARMING-i understand that there is a potential problem in the future, but i think the polticians are more intersted in getting a good excuse to tax us more.So how severe is the problem really?
I dont support gay marriage, because marriage is a religious oath, and no religion excepts gay marriage. If however they want to live in partnership they can continue doing so.
Socialism-dont know much about socialism, but i believe that part of our taxes should go towards maintaining an exceptable basic standard of living for all.But i also like the idea of enterprise and the succes of people through there hard work andcreativity inthe context of a meritocracy.-ANY PUBLIC FIGURE REPRESENT ME

I have never bought the idea that Fascism (the so called far right) is the polar opposite of Leftism/Socialism, but that Fascism and Socialism are the same thing as both of these governments are police states and brutal dictatorships. It is assumed that since Fascism does not micromanage the economy or confiscate all property, that Fascism is not the same thing as Socialism. But Hitler did not engage in these activities because he simply wasn’t interested and had no pressing need to do so (Germany was already an advanced and developed nation. The USSR, on the other hand, was basically a middle age nation in the early 20th century that needed to be modernized, hence the interest in managing the economy and all property.

If you do not agree with my premise consider the following: that the Nazi Party, a ‘fascist’ government, stood for “National Socialist Workers Party”; and that Hitler’s head of Foreign relations, Ribbentrop, would meet with Stalin’s government when the two nations were allies (prior to becoming enemies), and in his own words stated that he saw no difference between the two parties- that he felt he was ‘at a Nazi meeting’ with the Soviet leaders.

Couldn't you ask the same question of the Fox News Faithful?

As far as your issues go, global warming is supported by the vast majority of scientists in the vast majority of countries. Even if they are wrong, why is it such a bad idea to conserve energy and pollute the environment less? Common sense will tell you that if you dump enough crap into a container, sooner or later your container will be full of crap.

Gay marriage should be legal. If you are straight, this will never affect you. Around half of all straight marriages end in divorce anyway. People get married all the time for all the wrong reasons. We have a society where married people get a bunch of rights. There is no reason to withhold those rights from gay people. They are not gay as a 'lifestyle choice,' they are simply gay. Why punish them for that?

Abortion will never be abolished. Even if it were banned in the US, rich women would simply fly to a free country and get their abortion. Poor women would have to resort to unsafe back street methods. I don't see how it is right to use the law to force women to go through the unpleasant experience of child birth.

And so it continues. Unfortunately politics in America is very polarized. Politicians and the biased media use hot button issues like the ones you brought up to stir up grass roots support. People like you are gullible enough to fall for it every time. You support your political ideals like a football team, and continue to give unwavering support just because it's your team and to even consider alternatives would be disloyal.

For every liberal example you have given, it would be just as easy to provide some conservative examples. But all this would achieve nothing, intelligent thought beats dogma every time.

Let's turn it around.
Believe in global warming? You're an idiot who will believe anything science tells you.
Do support gay marriage? You're a degenerate who doesn't care about family values.
Do support pro-choice? You're an accomplice to murder and hate children.

What's the difference? This goes two ways and the argument fails. Can't include socialism, sorry that's nothing but a flame word being tossed around by the ultra conservatives.

There probably is global warming, but the dems don't have a real clue on what to do about it, only to try to win elections.

Gay marriage is wrong no matter what way you look at it. They are only trying to get the gay vote.

Abortion is wrong, especially partial birth which should be outlawed, other than that it should be a personal choice. But they are trying to win the Pro-Life vote.

Socialism is not what this country was founded on. There are already programs to help the poor and Republicans believe every man should make his own decisions in life, whether it be to work or not. Democrats only want to win the vote of the people who don't want to support themselves, and there are a lot of them.

I agree with the points you made.

Because, to an outside observer, it seems as if their political beliefs are religious in nature. So when you question the dogma of their religious beliefs, then you must be evil or stupid. Period.

Also, by their simplistic labelling of the opposition as some kind of sub-human, they can then dismiss all contrary opinions, and happily go along without having to actually think, study or research their own positions, as given to them by the high-priests of liberalism.

They think that we're inflexible, but many conservatives used to believe in the liberal positions, until experience and knowledge and learning showed us the folly and non-intellectual bases for those beliefs. We've seen the truth and are blind no more.

Im not sure.

Global warming is happening though, that is scientific fact. But you cannot disagree with these people PC idiots on anything. The UK goverment has policies of "positive discrimination". This involves stepping over the best qualified candidates in favour of promoting "wimmin" and filling racial quotas. The country is in a mess.

I will admit to supporting gay marriage. Why should only straight people have to pay alimony?

Abortion. Not our place to say. It is up to the individual

Socialism. Not sure what that entales anymore.

The FA has started clamping down on "inflammatory gestures" in football games. Therefore Scottish fans will no longer be allowed to call Jimmy Hill a "po*f", Scousers will not be allowed top be reffered to as "bin dippers", player celebrations will be banned and (this is true) players will not be allowed to wear branded underwear in case the cameras catch it (passive advertising).

These PC fascists are ruining our lives. My office was told to take down christmas decorations because it was a "tripping and fire hazard". How many people have you seen trip over a piece of tinsel attached to a wall?? We are not allowed to smile at female colleagues in case of sexual harrasment cases. We are not allowed to eat what we want without someone telling us how "bad it is for us". I can't go to my local swimming pool on a saturday afternoon becasue it is "muslim only", what happened to rights of the majority?

Global warming is not a matter of belief. It's a fact. If you think the earth is flat, you are *wrong.* It isn't a legitimate difference of opinion. As for the rest, you're caricaturing liberal opinions as your kind is wont to do. Even so, these things you claim liberals believe are true at least in part.

Also, you cons need to learn the difference between "your" and "you're." "Your" is the possessive form, as in "Your arguments are bogus." "You're" is a contraction of "You are," as in "You're wrong, wrong, wrong." Get used to hearing things like that.

Sounds about right to me. Seriously though, you're simplifying it a bit. It boils down to too much interest in what others do. I could argue the same logic for stereotypical conservative stances.
