I'd rather have the truth that draws a tear-because the lie that draws a smile will eventually be found out and cause even more tears causing the person lied to to feel like a fool.

What feels worse is obviously a truth that draws a tear. But what is actually wosre in general, a lie that draws a smile. Because who wants to be lied to, it's just not "real" like the truth is. And sometimes the truth hurts.

The truth. No matter if it brings a smile or tear. That one lie will build up with more lies to cover that one and then everything will become a lie. Just be honest.

Depends on the situation. Sometimes it better to lie to avoid hurting someone's feelings especially if it is something small like. "Love your outfit" As long as your motive is good, a little lie is not harmful. A big lie like, "No I have not been sleeping with your boyfriend" is bad.

sometimes there is no need to be too honest.
people who say "I only say it how it is" are sometimes just being insensitive
