VIA makes decent chipsets that run well with Intel processors. Just be sure to run the latest chipset drivers after you do the install of the new motherboard.

In my experience, via are the worst for getting service from. They make gateway look good by comparison and they consider customers to be an annoyance.

You would only risk buying via chips if the place that sells you the computer is willing to eat the cost of repair.

Well, there are sure a lot of them around. People must like them to keep buying them. Your software is a much more important choice, tho. Dont make the mistake of building a great machine and then ruin it with Windows, because there are 114,000 viruses waiting to infect Windows. Get Kubuntu, or a similar open source Linux software instead, at www.kubuntu.org

Forget VIA.

If you are going AMD get an Nvidia chipset.
If you are going Intel get an Intel chipset.

The cost is not much different but the benefits & support are way way superior by choosing Intel or Nvidia..
