I love that song!!Dixie chicks rock!I have a question, why were they banned from singing for 3 years. What did they say about Bush in 2003?Did they make a song about the war in Iraq in 2003 or what?

I also have another question, the title of the song is strange, why wasn't it( ready to be nice) 'cause I have never heard of make nice in my entire life.Any explanation?

"During the run-up to the invasion of Iraq, several weeks after their Grammy success, the Dixie Chicks performed in concert in London. On March 10, 2003, at the Shepherd's Bush Empire theatre in London, Natalie Maines, a Texas native, said between songs, "Just so you know, we're ashamed that the President of the United States is from Texas".

Sometime in 2005/6, The Chicks gave a performe in England, and while onstage, singer Natalie Maines made a comment that they were "ashamed" that President Bush was from the same state that they were. This got back to the U.S., and country music community (in general) were outraged. Many stations banned their songs, and some towns even burnt their CDs (I mean literally set them on fire!). "Not Ready To Make Nice" was the Chicks' reaction to the sometimes over the top reaction to what was meant to be an off-the-cuff comment.

"Not ready to make nice" is a very, very old expression meaning the person is not ready to apologize, not ready to make up. I can't tell you its exact origins, but it's probabIy another Southern thing. I live in the Deep South where a lot of our little towns are older than the U.S. itself, and the expression has been around forever it seems.
