Provided your pregnancy is normal and your doctor says its ok, and you're swimming in a normal pool with safely treated water, then swimming is a fantastic way to keep fit while you are pregnant. Avoid swimming in rivers or in the surf.
If you were very active and fit before becoming pregnant then with a few modifications you should be able to continue your exercise program. Just make sure you take care as your growing belly causes your center of gravity to change and adjust your balance accordingly.
But if like most people you were healthy but not an elite athlete, then any type of low impact exercise, like cycling on a stationary bike, or walking would be good also. Work out at a comfortable, even pace - don't get so out of breath you can't talk. Don't wear tight clothing - loose sweats or shorts and a t-shirt are better than leotards and tights.
Drink plenty of water while you're exercising, even if you are in the pool doing aqua-robics or swimming. Avoid becoming too hot - exercise in a well ventilated area with a comfortable room or water temperature. This is esepcially important if you do yoga - try and take a specialist maternity yoga class if you can as they will adjust the heat and exercise routine to accomodate. Never go into a spa or sauna either. Overheating is dangerous for mother and baby.
There are often special pregnancy keep fit classes at your local yoga center, gym, hospital or clinic, so you might want to check this out as an alternative, even if it is just to take a few classes to see what they do.
Take it easy and if it feels weird, STOP.
Best of luck.

Swimming is absolutely the best excercise you can do...it's cardio plus resistance training with absolutely no impact. Not to mention it feels good to swim, especially the further along you get. My sister used to all the time because it was the only time she felt comfortable was in the water...
walking is great excercise...but if you're legs and hips and back hurts...it probably won't make it feel better...that's why swimming is so great...it really takes the pressure off your hips and back!
Just make sure and swim in a pool where there IS a lifeguard on duty. Some pools do not have a lifeguard and are "Swim at your Own Risk". This is not safe, especially while pregnant.

Walking is good as it is a weight bearing exercise and something that should be taken into consideration when thinking long term. As in osteoporosis. It is something that can be done at your own pace, when it suits you and you can also continue it after the baby is born by taking them for a walk in their pram. If you like social exercise you can have a friend join you on your walks or go solo if you prefer it that way. But do remember, if you weren't exercising before your pregnancy; take it easy as you get into the habit of exercising. If you were exercising before your pregnancy and have any worries that exercise you have been previously done might not be suitable during your pregnancy then talk to your doctor. They should also know of any health issues that might preclude certain forms of exercise.

Swimming is good exercise and most women are able to do it until they're in their final month. Since I can't swim, though, that option wasn't available to me. I walk daily and do prenatal yoga, which is very relaxing and refreshing. It's best to just stay active since it will result in an easier labor. If you're interested in knowing more about health and pregnancy, you should join one of these websites below, which I've found very helpful:

swim, walk, bike (stationary), jog, yoga - you can really do pretty much anything that doesn't increase your chances of falling or getting hit in the stomach. if you modify things as you progress you can keep exercising up utnil your due date. It really helps you emotionally and physically, albeit it is hard to get up off the couch most mornings!!!

I do a mixture of yoga, pilates, and tai chi...its a class called body flow. I LOVE it! I actually teach the class at my local gym. There are a wide variety of options for pregnant women.

You'd be right. Swimming is good exercise. Deep-breathing exercises are also good.
