It isn't GOOD for it. I have opened up computers that belong to smokers and the internal components are covered with that tar like film that builds up from smoke. This will do similar damage to dust. Anything that gets into your machine and leaves a build up will reduce the computer's ability to properly cool. The residue from smoke is even a little worse, because it always seems to be slightly damp, or tacky. Anything that holds even the slightest moisture on the motherboard or any of the other circuitry will cause problems eventually. Even smoking in the house with a running computer will be bad for it, whether you are sitting right at the machine, or across the room or in another room, eventually. That doesn't mean you have to stop smoking around your computer, you just need to be aware that you are shortening the life of it. Breathing in smoke is as bad for computers as it is for people. Maybe I will be able to quit someday, LOL.
PS. In a way your computer DOES have lungs. The fans take in cool air to circulate inside the box to keep it from overheating. So all the smart alecs that made the joke about it hurting your computer IF it had lungs were right. It does.

Yes. Go have an x-ray of your lungs and then imagine what the wiring, microchips and all the internal working parts of the computer look like.

I think it's worse for you to smoke. Computers don't get lung, mouth or tthroat cancer from smoking they just need to be cleaned.

Actually yes, the tar can be harmful if it gets inside. It can coat delicate pieces in a similar way that it is coating your delicate lung tissue.
