How the hell do sperms know they have to swim and try and dig through an egg?

It's what their genetic instructions tell them to do. It's all they can think about (we have a lot in common at times).

It is actually due to chemosynthesis(a kind of chemical reaction). The acrosom of the sperm contains enzyme that would react on to the secondary oosit's membrane.
