The concept of the central vacuum system is similar to the central air conditioning system except the flow is opposite - A/C pushes air via venting hole in each room, the vacuum system allows you to attach a hose to a separate hole on the wall to suck in the dirt, then it's centrally collected - usually in the garage area for one stop cleaning.
Pros - 1) You don't have drag a heavy vacuum cleaner from one room to another and empty the bag/canister frequently, 2) It's quieter, 3) It doesn't blow dust back into the room. Cons - 1) For most cases, you can only install it while the house is being built, 2) It's hard to troubleshoot & expensive to repair if there are problems in the piping system.

central vaccuuming is a piping system that is ran through the entire house & connected to a vaccum cleaner. each room has an outlet in which you plug in the suction attachment ( the part of the vaccum that cleans the floor). You can move from room to room by pluging and unplugging the attachment without having to drag a vaccum through the house. This system works well. It pulls all that you vaccum to a central location (usally the garage).

A central vacuum usually has to be installed when the house is built. It has a vacuum usually in the basement, with hoses that go to "outlets" or ports in most of your rooms. You then hook a hose with a vacuum head into these ports and turn it on. My friend has had one in her house for a few years, and it works great. She just has to empty the container in the basement once in awhile, it has good suction, and she doesn't have to lug a vacuum cleaner around the house.

I don't know if the new ones are the same, but my mom had an old Sears central vacuum. Basically, there's a large vacuum unit in your utility room (ours was in the basement). Then there are individual connections in each room - the connection was just a little bit larger than a light-switch plate. You connected your hose to the vacuum connection and away you go. My mom liked it, but I didn't. We didn't have a connection in every room, so the vacuum hose had to be stretched from one room to another. It was more cumbersome than just rolling an upright vacuum from room to room.

A central vacuuming system is where outlets are placed in various rooms, where you hook up the sweeping wand and all the debris is collected in a central canister, usually located in a basement.
My mother had one and it worked wonderfully.

There's a system of tubes in the walls and you just hook the vacuum cleaner tube up to the wall and it sucks the dirt into a central place in the basement.
