Halo.. You can try staying @ Marriott Singapore, Hyatt, Meritus Mandarin, Park Hotel - Orchard.. All these Hotels are located in Orchard Road itself & about the price range of Royal Plaza on Scotts.. Personally I have stayed at Royal Plaza, Do find the room very well done & service is good.. But agree, the view from some of the rooms is lacking.. If you wished to stay in other areas, try Gallery, Swissotel Standford, Merchants Court, Amara, Rendezvous, New Majestic, Conrad..

The Mandarin Singapore for pure luxury.
Gallery Hotel for one of Singapore's funkiest hotels--great if your single; followed by Hotel Phoenix.

The Marriot of cos.Plenty of shops nearby ....and the staff are friendly:-)
