yeah, i hate to compare any, and yeah, 4,5 and six were really good for their time but, when it became possible to do things better with technology, it's made the older ones seem ... old, i mean no matter how hard core a star wars fan you are you have to admit some of those early lightsaber battles were a bit lame... i just don't understand why so many people diss the new ones.

If it were not for 4/5/6/ you would not know who Luke, Han, Leia, etc. were. And you would not have been able to piece the puzzle together while watching 1/2/3. You wouldn't give a rats a**. And people would not have been in such a frenzy to go see 1/2/3. Lucas started something that took him a long time to finish. And if 1/2/3 came out first, then it would be the same way. Sure the special effects are better in 4/5/6. But there is always the stigma of the wowing experience when you see Star Wars for the first time
I think a lot of it to has something with the innocence of childhood too. I was only 4 when i went to see the original, and that in itself makes me remember all the fun that I used to have with my brother when we played Star Wars as kids.
Kids now a days play on the newer Star wars, not like we did.
Have you ever watched 1-6 in one day? I have done it a few times. You always catch something new. Try it you will see what I mean.

Because the storyline SUCKED!!!! Yes the old movies look old because they are old and the new movies are the product of modern technology. However, the old movies had a story that people cared about so much that it was possible for George Lucas to make the prequels. Episodes 1,2 and 3 were made on the strength of the old movies. Some things needed to be explained, such as how the universe came to be under the control of the Empire but other things were Lucas' imagination run away with bad results (Jar Jar Binks anyone?). The best movie of the prequels was the third movie. If the prequels had started there (or episode 2) then it could have been salvageable. Also, what's up with plot details not matching up? The most notable being that Padme dies in childbirth when Leia clearly says that she remembers her mother. Things like that lead me back to the originals and their old special effects (which were cutting edge at the time).

1. Anakin was cocky and underestimated Obi-Wan because of that (plus, if you're talking about the movie I think you're talking about, Obi-Wan had the high ground... doesn't matter how good you are if gravity and geography is working against you) 2. Don't know... I guess he felt like there was just nothing left in him - or for him - than the dark side since they had pretty much wiped out all the jedi and because he was already recognized as a bad guy by the remaining jedis 3. Yes, it was his fault... sort of. He caused her to go into labor and then because of his abrupt turn into eeeeevil, she no longer wanted to live 'cuz if she did she'd only love a bad guy 4. Yeah, I think he did. 5. Old 6. Don't know 7. I guess so >.< (haven't seen the movie in a while) 8. Anakin's prophecy was that he was the "chosen one" who was going to right all the wrongs and bring balance to the force. He fulfilled that when he killed the super bad guy in the sixth movie to save his son. 9. Yeah, but I was more sad with the fact that he'd lost everything he had ever loved and was a shell of a person.

Personally I love all of them, and I will agree the lightsaber battles are better in the latest ones, but that comes to be expected. You could put it down to them being out of training, what with the jedi being crushed and all that. Obviously the re-mastering has helped the old ones no end too. End of the day, there was always going to be obvious differences because the time gap was so big, but its still good fun to watch all of them in order! Im going to stop now before I come over as too much of a geek!

prefer the old ones- just true star wars. personally mr.lucas new he could make alot of money from all the extra fans over the years.

Dont get me rong the new films are amazing. the graphics are second to-none and the space battles are incredible.

Though as a true fan the older versions at the time made people gob-smacked. The way the story-line goes is birlliant. all the actors played their characters with top class.

It was good to see how they turned anakin into darth vader. though it throws you as you keep thinking back to the old ones-yet you have to remember that there in the future......

I totally agree with you, I love the old ones for the nostalgia, the thing is would they be as popular if they where released now?
Personally I absolutely loved 3. Thought it could have been made any better.
I like the new ones for all the visual stuff but 1 was a bit lame, 2 was all right.
Basically the old ones have a better storyline, but new ones look better

While I like them all the old ones were definatly better. The storyline was better and Han Solo is awsome, but the knew ones had so many corny lines in them, for example in episode 2 all of those puns, I hate puns, I mean really "I am quite beside myself" "she seems to be on top of things" "This is such a drag" in episode 1 it was little anakin, i can't stand him the scense with him are so anoying, episode three was really good though but it still had some really corny moments "wait, how did this happen we'er smater than this" what was lucs thinking. But despite their problems, it really isn't correct to discuss which are better because star wars is really one long movie broken in to 6 sections

Lucas was a genius and way ahead of his time when he created the original Trilogy. I love 'em all but the new don't compare to the old.
Today's advances in movie-making technology don't make the new ones better. CGI isn't all it's cracked up to be. Modern-day CGI cartoons suck! Nothing compares to the cartoons I grew up with.

the cast and class of acting in 4, 5 and 6 far surpass all the new ones. the fight scenes might be a bit lame compared to what you can get nowadays, but for their time most of the effects were ground breaking.
