Wicked was actually originally supposed to be a movie. Stephen Schwartz, however, had different ideas. He wanted to make Wicked into a musical. He eventually convinced the producers to abandon the idea of a movie, and instead make it into the musical it is today. This was, apparently, a very wise choice. After seeing it onstage, it would be a disaster as a movie. All the energy, emotion, and exuberance that is displayed onstage would be impossible to recreate on the silver screen. If you haven't already, I highly suggest reading the book. After reading the book, I don't care to see the stage production or any movie that might come to be. It is the perfect book.
