After I reinstalled windows xp,my pc's resolution is set to 640/480 pixels in 16 bit colour scheme.Also,I can't hear any sound from my computer after the installation.please tell me why this has happened and how to solve this problem as soon as possible

You need to install the proper video card driver as well as the sound card driver.
Identify the brands & models of these components & go to the manufacturers' websites for the XP dirivers.

You will need to download or install the compatible Audio drivers for listening to audio files. And for changing the display properties, just right click on the desktop and select properties, there you can change the pixels, provided you have downloaded the appropriate and compatible Video or Graphics driver

Soon after the installation of Windows OS u must install all the necessary Drivers including sound ,graphics like that. then only u can enjoy the windows style.u can do it by installing with ur motherboard CD.

Go to the manufacturer's web site, they should have a support option find the downloads and find the model of you computer and download the correct sound and graphic drivers.

ur lacking the drivers ........go to the website of ur manufacturer they'll have the drivers there for u to download..........once u download them go into ur device manager and right click on the yellow "?" and then click update driver.....it may pick it up ......if not u'll have to search in a specific location so remember where u downloaded the drivers to ......then go to that location and they will instal...............gl
