Well, there are 1000 meters in a kilometer, and moving at 8 meters per second, it is just

1000 / 8 = 125 seconds

That´s simples.
If the speed is 8 m / s let´s put it in another way.

8 meters - 1 second
1000 meters - x seconds (1 km = 1000 meters)

8 . x = 1000 . 1
8x = 1000
x = 1000 / 8
x = 125 seconds
