My iMac's 60gb hard drive is full. Ideally, I would like to upgrade to a bigger internal hard drive rather than buying an external one. Considering that I have no way to back up the contents from the original drive, is there another way I can transfer them across?

I recently bought a 300Gb external hard drive for all my music and it's great. But, one thing to look out for is that the pins on the adapter that connects the drive to your computer are easily broken. I'm struggling to get mine to work now. If you can find one thats got a USB adapter then I would go for that

Better to buy an interna hard drive and use the existing one as secondary. If your hard disk is giving error messages it is cheaper to install a new hard disk drive and transfer all important data to the new hard drive. Depending on your technical skills, importance of the data, time and money available, there are various options available, for more informations visit http://fixit.in/transferdata.html

You could buy a larger internal drive, then use Nortons Ghost to exactly copy all data, making an exact, bootable copy to the bigger drive.(Then save your smaller drive, using a USB adapter- for backup, spare, storage ,etc).

I have two external 80GB drives on my PC. I use one for backing up the internal drive and the other for mp3's and Jpeg's. It works for me. Internal drives can be tricky to install.

i suggest an external drive for files etc and clear the internal drive, using it only for critical files, software and the OS
