Seriously, I know smell and taste are linked, but I am not sure how smell affects the taste. I do however have an experiment you can use showing how much smell plays a factor: Have handy a jar of cinnamon powder, unlabeled so the person you are using for the experiment doesn't what it is. Have him pinch his nostrils so he cannot let any air through for smell and make him take a small spoonful of the powder and guess what it is. Normally he will guess wrong (you will see). But when he unblocks his nostrils he will be able to tell that it's cinnamon immediately. Saw it on a documentary...Try this experiment on your Science Fair judge, you will get good points.

When we smell the air passes through the wind pipe which has an opening in our mouth, and as it passes through the mouth if it is a bad smell then you hate to taste it and if its a sweet and a nice smell then saliva will be produced then you would get attracted to it and want to taste it. If the food is bad smelling then if you unwantedly consume it you will vomit it.

Not a clue..but my friend can't smell but she can taste. It's funny, without thinking I'll say, "Hey Lorraine, Smell my new lip gloss" Then I remember, oops. So, I'll say, " Hey Lorraine, taste my lip gloss!" Pointless answer I just gave...well not really. My friend is living proof that you don't need to smell things to be able to taste things.

-.-'
