A far away college with a dorm room OR a nearby college without dorm rooms (like where you go home everyday). Why?

A nearby college is better. You would save thousands, and when it comes to college, every penny counts. It would also be nice to stay close to your family for holidays, and if you're not paying rent, even better.

I think it's neccesary to experience the "away from home" experience. In most cases, go to the far away college with a dorm room. You get to be on your own, see a new area and get experiences that you definitely could not get while living with the 'rents ;) I'd opt for a "far away" college in-state, it's much friendlier on the wallet. There are some circumstances when the nearby college would be a better option, if it's really a better school then you are going to be getting more "bang for your buck" by living at home and saving on college living expenses because Room and Board can be pretty rough on the budget.

This TOTALLY depends.
I lived at home b/c the college I went to was close by and it was convienent and still a great school (had what I wanted to study, great location, great teachers etc). But, living at home is ok for me - my parents and I get along good and give me space, so it was ok for me to do that.
On the other hand, going away to college is good if you find someplace that has just what you want and if you need space from the parents and all that. Going away to school is also good cause it kicks the independent part of you into gear.
Maybe write a list of pro's and con's for going away, and also a pro and con list of the schools you want to go to.
Hope this helps and Good Luck!! :)
