Please do EVERYTHING you can to avoid that Cesarean. I have had two and both were unnecessary. Here is a lot of information, but it is very useful. I wish you could get the book SILENT KNIFE because if is very informative on preventing c-sections. Perhaps someone could find it for you at a library.

The best advice I can give you is to just let nature take its course. If labor has not begun it is because it is not time. I let them induce my first baby and it ended up in a c-section (which is what happens a lot of the time with induction).

LABOR INDUCTION:
One of the most common reasons for Cesarean is "failure to progress" (this is what I was told). When a woman is induced, the pain is often so terrible that she begs for pain medication. The meds knock mommy out, as well as the baby. Did you know that your baby has an active part in the birthing process? It is something inside the baby that triggers labor in the first place. Then, as the baby is being delivered, he is navigating himself down the birth canal-maneuvering his head and shoulders so that he can get out. When he is sedated by drugs, he can not do this. So everything locks up and progression stops. Then here comes the doctor, wanting to perform the Cesarean. (If progression somehow stops during a home birth, as long as the baby's fetal heart tones are fine, the midwife just goes back to bed and checks on you later. That's all that needs to be done. But that usually doesn't happen at home, because most midwives will not use drugs. Just some interesting info.) So I am asking you to try to avoid being induced.

NATURAL INDUCTION:
Go to Walmart (or some other pharmacy) and get some BLUE COHOSH capsules. The Indians used it during labor to help dilate the cervix. It has been used to start real labor, but it will not start labor unless it is time. I would start by taking 2 capsules. Maybe do this every 12 hours? It's not an exact science and it is based on your own body chemistry. But, like I said before, it shouldn't cause false labor, only induce actual labor.

Home remedies are intended to aid the body in the beginning of labor on the slight chance that your body is READY. But if you have tried these things it means that your body is not ready. Blue Cohosh is natural and it will not hurt to try it. But inducing with drugs is NOT natural and it can lead to many problems.

Personally, I would tell the doctor that I was going to wait for natural labor to occur and that there was no option for a c-section unless natural labor began and then there were complications. Inducing with man-made medications can lead to all kinds of problems. And once you have the first c-section it is very difficult to get doctors to agree to let you have the next babies vaginally.

Are they afraid the baby is too big? Here is more info from the books. Another reason that doctors perform Cesareans is because they say the woman's pelvis is too small and the baby is too big. They show her x-rays that "prove" the baby will not fit through. (You know, God made a mistake making this woman's body...) A chiropractor pointed out that the pelvis is made (by God) to become "elastic-like" during delivery. The pelvis WILL be sufficient to deliver the baby when the time comes. But doctors either do not know this, or they do not tell their patients. One doctor used this excuse on a woman. She later found out that the baby was breech, but that the doctor was not comfortable delivering a breech. He made her think that HER BODY was the problem when, really, it was his insecurity. Isn't that a great reason to put a woman through such an ordeal? We really must educate ourselves more.

Please try to get this book. If nothing else, try the Blue Cohosh. I was prepared to use it with my last pregnancy (a home birth) but I didn't need to. I just found out I am expecting my third child and I will attempt a VBAC home birth.

Hi. Sorry you are so uncomfortable. Some things I've heard of to help induce labor: walking, spicy food, and sex seems to be one that really works. I would not take the castor oil. I've read of that doing harm to the baby. Another thing that I've heard about is drinking Red Raspberry Leaf Tea. You should be able to find it in the grocery store. It's supposed to strengthen the uterus, ease and quicken labor, and induce labor. It's what the pioneers used in the 1800's to induce labor instead of Pitocen that doctors use today. It's supposed to be so strong in fact, that it is not supposed to be drank in early pregnancy, or it could cause a miscarriage...but it's great to induce a late baby! Drink a few cups everyday, and hopefully that baby'll come! God Bless!
Oh, and make sure it says on the tea box that it is the herbal kind, not just some flavored raspberry tea...you need the real red raspberry leaf kind.

First thing you should do is get rid of your doctor! Who ever heard of scheduling a c-section for a late baby? That's ridiculous. Your baby will be born when it's ready. A midwife will help to deliver it. Your body is designed to give birth. You just need some determination, information and support to be able to do so naturally. Very few women need C-sections but an alarming amount of women end up having them due to a lack of determination, information and/or support.

Go girl you can do it!

My first child was right on the day, my second was 6 days late and my third was 3 months early. They all have their own agenda and it isn't necessarily that of mum! A friend of mine saw a natural midwife after being induced for her first two babies. Herbal teas brought the baby on and kept the contractions happening. Maybe you could see a naturopath. My friend was so pleased not to have to be induced again. And c-section is the worst. My first two were natural and I healed so quickly. It took so much longer to heal with my third. And congrats on your first child. You have a lot to look forward to. All that sleepless nights, teething, etc, but on the upside there's smiles and someone to give you cuddles out of the blue and who wants to make you laugh when they see you sad, who doesn't care what you do as long as you are doing it with them, preferably with rattles or saucepans when they're little, Lego or dolls when they're older. And write down the things that make you smile or proud or even make you tear your hair out. A baby journal is wonderful to look back on and it is amazing how much you forget.

Antibiotics are not known to interfere with the timing of menstrual cycles; however, physical illness IS. Sickness stresses the body, which may disrupt your menstrual cycle. The quickest way to ascertain whether or not you are pregnant is by taking a home pregnancy test. First Response Early Result is one of the most reliable, and can be used up to 5 days BEFORE the missed period, so you could safely use it now. If the test is negative, wait a few more days and take another test. If your period is a week late and the pregnancy test is still negative, call your doctor for a consultation.

you may have heard this a lot...but you do what you did to get this baby in the first place....after that walk, and walk a lot. I do suggest that if your baby is really big you go for the c-section. I recovered much quicker with the c-section than I did after natural child birth. Good Luck! and Congrats.

Wow, congratulations.

You're going to have so much fun, you have no idea.

I was 2 weeks late, babies come when they're good and ready.

It's cozy in there and he probably doesn't want to come out. Who could blame him?
There really isn't anything you can do the speed up the process. Walking is good though, if you can stand it. Maybe do some light Kegel exercises.

He'll be here soon enough, don't wish his life away before it's begun!

I am playing the waiting game right along with you... our first baby too. sex every day seems to help soften my cervix. (The doc said that every time I feel the low menstral-like cramping, that's the cervix softening. For me, this seems to happen after sex.) Sorry but I've already tried jumping jacks, spicy food and walking, and none of those seem to help. Definately don't do jumping jacks, or you'll end up with a lot of pubic pain and still no baby .

My friend said that she pushed a very heavy grocery cart and that broke her water. Another said she swore it was th Mexican food that started her contractions. A person on this website said she strained to poop and her water broke.

Best Wishes!

Sex and walking are the top two. It's a matter of the baby coming when it decides too. Due date could have been off by a few days too. It's not as exact as it should be. Good luck.

Tell him you'd rather give natural birth even if it means being induced. If you don't necessarily need a C-section he shouldn't be scheduling you for one.Vaginal birth is so much easier to recover from. My Dr. induced me twice due to discomfort at 37 weeks.
