i just bought a waterer, and it is the type that is mounted to the wall or a cage and a bottle filled with water is placed on top. the animal will lick a metal ball allowing water to fall through.. anyway, how do i teach her to use it?

simple, put up to her(or his, I'm not bias) mouth let the water drip from the tip to her tongue, then show her where you put it. and don't give her water anywhere else.. Cats are pretty smart, she'll figure it out, certainly before she dehydrates.... Just keep an eye out for a faint kitty cat.

hopefully you don't keep your cat in a cage! and if you do shame on you. If it is mounted on a wall, how high up is it? Maybe that is discouraging for the cat. I have a waterer on the floor and cats like to drink from a saucer.

Just make sure there are no other way the cat can get water, not even from a toilet bowl. Also show her with your finger and let it drip down and the cat will figure it out and next thing you know the cat is drinking from it.

put the cat in a cage with no other water source,it will amaze you how fast animals learn, i use these same type waterers for my pygmy goats, chickens and rabbits good way to always have water readily available with less mess

You can show him/her how it works by letting her/him drink out of it.
