First off, did she say to quit calling her by her first name. I know alot of the teachers in my school don't mind being called by their first names from the kids they are related too. If she does mind, just explain to her that you are going to stop saying a name at all. Just say hello, how are you, etc...Until you get yourself out of the first name mode.

Yes, I do believe that is a difficult situtation to be in because I'm sure you're so accustomed to dealing with her as your aunt. However, you should remember that you both have dual roles in this case, you as a niece and as student, and her as a teacher and aunt. It may be best to think of which role is prevalent, and in your situtation, in the school, what is more important is for you to be a student and for her to be a teacher. Therefore refer to her as you would you other teachers, it's more appropriate that way. Also, if other students hear you calling your aunt by her first name they might do the same thing. This is dangerous for a teacher becasue such situtations could make students too comfortable with their teacher and instead of treating their teacher with respect and authority they'll treat their teachers as friends. Trust me, I made this mistake during my practicum in a science highschool (I'm an education graduate) and I had a difficult time controlling my students because they treated me more like a friend. But then again, ask your aunt, it might simply be ok with her.

I am sure you can come to a compromise with her. But first, when around other teachers and students, give her the professional respect she deserves and call her by her proper name. At school she is the TEACHER, not your aunt.
