The last 2 times we went we only went through passport control in England, when arriving in Paris we got straight off the train and straight through, no checks! That was in June 2005 and May 2006, but it may have changed again since then!

Assuming you're going from Waterloo or Ashford then you will go through passport control (British then French) before you get on the platform. Then 'technically' you are on French territory and subject to French law. Sometimes the passport checks are done on the train, especially when returning from France.
