He is over 3. He has one then gets better. But his eyes are very wide and he feels cold. :( What euthanasia is best for ratties? I wish I could help him feel as comfortable as possible till morning. If he makes it we can see the vet........:(

Seizures are not a sign of dying per say, but getting cold is. Seizures are a sign of a metabolic disorder that has probably been brewing for some time without you knowing it. He's now at the end of his disease and the seizures are coming on more violent and more frequent. Rats do get epilepsy.

Sadly :*( it does sound like your boy is coming to the end of his life.
My vet euthanizes my rats for $10.00 using an anesthetic gas (isoflorine). When the rat is asleep she gives the final injection. Most of the time the rat is so sick it passes away just with the gas.

You can make him more comfortable by keeping him in a warm towel and holding him close to you until he passes on his own, or you get him to a vet. He will probably refuse food now, but he will readily take water if you offer it to him through an eye-dropper. If he does eat, it will be strained baby food that will be the easiest to get into him.

If it comforts you, you have done an awesome job of being a rat-mom to have him live so long. The average lifespan of our pet rats is 2 to 3 years.

All my best to you in this sad time.

3 is old for rats. Though I had one who was 6. If he feels cold he is dying. Wrap in warm blanket and say goodbye, should not be too much longer. Its a natural part of life.

if you don't get the chance to take him to the vet then use some rat posion. it might seem cruel but it will end his pain

i'd hold him as much as possible, make sure the room has fresh air, make sure he's drinking, and he's eating.
