Added: I get sinus infections from time to time and they do run it's course, but every 10 years or so one persists and will not go away. I've had this going on 6 months now. and by the way Mike G, what else would I possibly do with penicillin other than to use it as a cure?

Locate a Doctor that can work on cash basis. Locally we have them for $45 for basic checkup. Or you can go to the CVS Drug Store and see a Nurse Practitioner that can presribe simple medications. They charge ~$40.

#1 : Have you called your family doctor? Most, if they know you, will
call in an Rx if you have a repeated condition like sinus
infections.

#2 : Penicillin is NOT the best antibiotic for a sinus infection. A
doctor would know that. (Too many resistant organisms).

Try normal saline nasal sprays, available at most drug stores. The saline solution loosens up congestion and helps releive the pressure from your sinus cavities. Quite often the sinuses are not infected, and are just clogged. I've suffered from sinus trouble for years, and found this spray to be an inexpensive wonder!

I would try a saline nasal rinse (not a spray.),a full warm water saline rinse goes in one nostril and out the other. It draws out all the gunk and shrinks the tissue (like swimming in the ocean). The buffered salt doesn't 'sting' as much as plain salt water. You can use a new method like Nasopure, or the vintage, Netipot.

You don’t need a prescription for this therapy. If you live in a state like mine, they’ve pretty much “outlawed” sudafed medicine. Drug-free is really the way to go on a frequent-use basis.

check and see if there is a health clinc in your area. If not you should have a primary doctor. Call and ask them what the cash price is for a office visit. there is a diffrence as I work for a dr. It is 45.00 here. Your hard pressed to get the penacillian even with a sinus infection. let alone without being seen. We know my daughter has one took her to dr's and they said it would work itself out in about 7 days. They don't like to give out penacillian. If we still have problems in 7 days I call the dr i work for.
