As a smoker I do no think that we should inflict our habit on non smokers in public places, especially if children are present. I am a nurse and yes I am more than aware of the danger of smoking to myself and of second hand smoke to others. I do think the no smoking in the bars is somewhat ludicrous as most folks in bars aren't there for health related reasons. I smoke outside on the patio at home and in very cold weather I limit my smoking. I do smoke in my vehicle simply because it is mine and when the family travels we do so in my husbands vehicle. So should smoking be banned no, should it be regulated in some public businesses absolutely.

lol @ Taylor29

im a smoker and i think all this smoking ban is getting out of control if they are so up on this why dont this just get rid of cigs all together but gov wont because of how much money they make so i think they been VERY two faced
i think there is more important things out there at the mo and worrying about ban smoking from here and everywhere example like todays news 3 kids shot in london i think that should come 1st rather than worry what ban will come next on smoking!
dont get me wrong i understand its not nice on non smokers back a while ago it was never a issuse so why is it now?!?!

Well of course it should be,after all hasn't every limitation put upon peoples lifestyles through legislation so far been a booming success. Prohibition for example, wasn't that simply a roaring success? And of course who can miss the mammoth strides that have been made by the " drug war" in the US,why our drug problems have almost disappeared. Of course you see the sarcasm, and how can one react any other way, today there are countries in the world where drug distribution can get you a penalty of death, yet drugs are still available in these countries, limitations on peoples lifestyles never work and never have succeeded in anything but causing tension and animosity between groups. For instance the wonderful smoking bans that have been put in place in many localities, they solve a non existent problem and serve no purpose other than to agitate one group in society to appease another segment. So much for comprimise and trying to live together, but then again why would we do that when we can argue amongst ourselves.

No, I don't think smoking should be banned. I am a smoker. I am a considerate smoker. I am tired of people coming up to me a saying those things will kill you. They reply is usually, so won't crossing that parking lot you just walked through to tell me this. People think its vulgur, repulsive, it smells, causes wrinkles. Well we all know what the dangers are, yet we still smoke. As people still drink, use illgeal drugs, over eat. What makes us laugh, in our smoking area, outside of work. We are away from human contact. Out in left field, so to speak. Yet some person will make the fake coughing noise and say what is that smell. lol so my vote is for not banning it, it gives everyone something to complain about.

No way smokers can tolerate a ban. The United States tried to ban alcohol in the early 20th century which was impossible to accomplish as it would be today. The state I live in wants to increase the pack of cigarettes an additional 70 cents which is a bunch of bull. What happened to the no taxation without representation? Smokers should have large amounts of tax-breaks not the opposite since they are willing to shorten their life expantcy and all.. I get so sick and tired of retarded americans more than willing give up thier rights because the TV says its ok.

I don't smoke, but I do get sick when I am around it. I hate smoke of any kind. However, I think based on the freedom we inherited when we came to America, smoking should not be banned. Private property owners deserve the right to practice freedom. As a whole, smoking will never be completely banned. The government gets too much money off taxes to allow that.

I am not telling smoking should be completely banned.Otherwise what will those cigarette companies do.Smoking is personal activity and I think it cannot be stopped immediately when government make a ban.I am of the view that smoking should be banned in public areas, because it is harmful for the people sitting near.Government has already declared it.But I myself had seen police smoking in public places. What should we poor citizens do?

Hi Mario Frank,

I'm glad that opposition is actually coming from a guy ~ usually it's something that guy really loved. In my nation, the rate to smokers among men still higher than women, therefore you'll see my point.

By the way, I'm totally support all the smoking ban campaigns by the authorities all over the world. We should take stern action against it as prevention is far better than cure!

Above all, I hope many people out there realize the hazardous side of smoking ~ in fact, there's almost no advantange doing it!

It'll only burn your money in spite of killing you slowly...

It is very nice that you can mostly go about your day now without breathing other people's smoke. They must not realize how nasty it is to nonsmokers. Now I think that smokers should be held responsible for property damage they cause with their smoke. A rental car is never the same after being smoked in. Hotels rooms are wrecked too. I think sensitive alarms should be installed to keep smokers from ruining property. Let them stink up their own property.

I really don't like to be around cigerette smoke, and I hate to have my kids exposed to it. People that smoke know it is bad for them, so they should just be polite enough to not want to poison other people!!! Unfortunatley there are those smokers that just don't care , so yes it should be banned in public!!!
