Wales have a proud tradition in Rugby Union. This is perhaps the top sport in Wales. Football is also big, with many Welsh players playing in the premiership - Ryan Giggs.
There is diversity in Welsh sports - on the local level cricket is very big with most small towns having one or two cricket clubs - and there is also one Welsh county side.
Welsh Athletics has also produced some of the world's best athletes - Colin Jackson being a good example.
Other sports like Tennis, Lacrosse etc are played in Wales but are not as popular. Squash and badmington are fairly popular with Wales hosting some major tournaments and producing some of the world's best players.
Boxing is another sport where Wales tends to excel, producing many Olympic and World champions.
Marshal arts, such as Judo, Karate etc are popular too.
Other 'sports' include Snooker - whether you call this a sport is questionable, but Wales have a great tradition in Snooker with Ray Reardon and Terry Grifiths.

Rugby Union - this is the No. 1 sport in Wales. They have a proud history in this, although their form has been patchy recently.
Football - they have been unlucky in this sport. They should have qualified for the World Cup in Germany as they beat Italy in the qualifiers but still managed to mess things up.
Athletics - Colin Jackson was a world class hurdler. They have produced good athletes over the years.
Snooker - Terry Griffiths and Ray Reardon were world champions.
Sheep - the Welsh are very good with sheep and this is probably their second biggest sport - after Rugby

Rugby. A rugby ball is a symbol associated with Wales. On St David's day people either wear a Welsh costume or a Welsh rugby shirt.

Rugby Union is the big sport in Wales, football only really has a following in the larger towns & cities (almost everyone else supports English sides).
Plus they have one cricket team, Glamorgan.

If you are interested in "strange" sports, why not try the Bog Snorkelling World Championships?
They take place on the August Bank Holiday Monday on the outskirts of the small Welsh town of Llanwrtyd Wells (on the A483, near the Brecon Beacons)
At the same location is the annual "Man versus Horse versus Mountain Bike" marathon: http://llanwrtyd-wells.powys.org.uk/eventmanvhorsevbike.htm
