You should UNinstall it and buy a good program. That is if you really like your computer and the data on it.
"You get what you pay for." example is one of the answer here that you'd have to start your pc after 9:00? No way you should use a program that doesn't allow you to make/change settings.
McAfee is the Best.
Norton works but is a memory hog plus other things.
I've been working on/with personal computer for 20 years so I know.

well i downloaded the free version last week and it doesnt have the options any more to manualy configure your scans, its comes on at differnt times each day or night its very annoying, i just push the button to stop it and that works, then i do a manual scan in my own time, it seems like its a new idea, cos it never used to be like this, but i dont like it, im thinking of changing it, yet i do realise its a good prog.
my vers is 7.5 441

Version 7.5 is the current one. You can change the schedule in that version. Open AVG and select scheduler on the left side. Click the schedule you want to change and click Edit Schedule. Set it to run whenever you want it too.

Start up later in the day, after 09.00 then it does not do it, the free edition can not be set or modified, it is set to do a scan at that time

I have the free 7.5 and had no problems. Did you load it right or are you on the old unsupported 7.1. If so upgrade to 7.5.

if you see Scheduler, you can edit the schedule, and just Uncheck the daily scans and daily updates.
