It's a system that has a special way of reading music files. And the ones on ebay that cost 1p usually cost a fortune to have posted to you. This is always written in the small print so read the ads carefully.

It's 3 Tory MP's that cant find work as Tory Blair's on his way out and cant start them with labour so like any crap politicians does the next step is to sell there souls for money and joined the rest of the tory has beens and sell there self on e-bay for 1p

mp3 players play various formats of music like .mp3, .wma and .wav (this you can check in music properties of the file).
The ones for 1p are likely to be from hong kong which maybe described incorrectly, be careful

To answer the second part of your question: as the technical specifications improve, people buy new ones and want rid of the old ones, as with mobile phones. So they try flogging off the old ones.

something like IPOD but you cant play videos on it
(it's cheap+ easy it use)
