take a picture of a lost loved one and look at it before you go on,
than just slip it into your pocket before you go on.

or, (this is what i do)

think of one of your parents, loved ones, friends, dying in a car crash
to come to your performance than just force out the tears and start making noises like your crying (keep thinking about it!) and then the tears should start rolling!

Acting is drawing upon your deepest emotions. You must be able to recall something that in the past made you cry - recall that and re-experience it. It can be painful. Perhaps you have lost a loved one, had a fight with someone, or been angry enough to cry. Practice sitting alone in a room and find what it is that creates this emotion within you and recreate it over and over again until you feel comfortable doing it at will. Sometimes reading a sad passage of a book will work or remembering a sad part of a movie seen. For some, frustration makes them weep - think of something like that. Good luck.

If you have to come on stage crying then I have a few ideas for if the ones above don't work. I know it can be hard to think about other things if you're nervous and onstage. If you get into character enough often the tears just work, but if you still need help try these:

*open your eyes as wide as you can and try not to blink
*close your eyes, push on them, and squint while pushing (just don't push too hard)
*rub your eyes a lot
*spray water in them and then wipe them, often it's easier to cry when your eyes are already wet

Honestly I think it's retarded when they require you to cry onstage, because if the tears don't come from real emotions then everything will be lost to all but the front few rows. They say that 90% of everything done onstage is lost to the audience, so get into character as much as you can and try to really feel whatever the character is feeling.

Before you go even go to the audition or whatever think of the absolute worst thing that could happen in your life. Then dwell on it and make it real-play it like a movie in your head till you cry. Keep doing that till it's like it actually happened to you. It should hurt your heart to think about it. Then just go on stage and think of that worst possible thing and only that. It works for me.
