Haven't payed attention in the last couple days, but his dad made a statement about how the cops planted all the evidence because they don't like Avery.
I think he is guilty, for the same reason as you, he couldn't adjust to living outside of prison.

This is by far the sickest, most gut wrenching thing I have ever witnessed in my entire life. This trial makes me sick to my stomach and I don't understand how any body can have faith in our legal system after watching these cowardly, corrupt, downright pathetic excuses of law enforcement officers destroy everything this innocent poor man had in his life. I am beyond disgusted and outraged that anybody can seek any kind of pride in our legal system after watching this documentary. If I ever go near mantiwoc county I will literally make it a personal goal to spit in the face of every one of these corrupt individuals. Policeman basically killed, burned, assaulted a innocent woman because they were already so vested in a wrongful accusement that they would have had to pay for themselves all said and done!!!!! Disgusted and hope these officers rot away for eternity and it wouldn't be anywhere near deserving of a punishment for these sick, twisted, pathetic excuses of policeman. Die slowly!!!!
