Lunar Soil:

The lunar soil is a fine grained, cohesive sand/gravel containing glass spheres (impact ejecta), igneous dust and coarse breccia (cemented material from impacts).

Soil from the maria are 3 to 4x109 years old. Soil from the highland is 4.6x109 years old (from the early Solar System).

The soil composition for the Moon is similar to Earth soil but with very different element ratios. In particular, the lunar soil is rich in refractory elements (i.e. ones with high boiling points) and low in volatile elements (i.e. ones with low boiling points). The conclusion is that the Moon was formed from hotter materials than the Earth.

Cheese! Mostly Swiss, with a little Monterrey jack.

Actually, I would go with Pink Lady's answer. The moon is mostly composed of the light metals that made up the top-most layer of the Earth. The heavier metals stayed behind on Earth, which is why Earth has a nice gravitational pull and the moon has very little gravity.

Terrestrial lithosphere. Light minerals containing aluminum and silicates. The moon was formed when a large body impacted the earth over one billions years ago. The body was absorbed and the outer layer of the earth was ejected into space as a debris field which was captured in earth's gravitational field and consolidated into the moon. It was lucky to us too as without the moon to limit the earth's wobble, live wouldn't have evolved into its current diverse forms.

Moon soil collected by the first Apollo astronauts was dark gray to brownish gray in color. It consisted of tiny pieces of ground-up rocks, bits of glass, and scattered chunks of rock. The soil was formed by repeated grinding and churning of the moon's surface as meteoroids hit it and flying pieces of the moon knocked out craters.
:::MORE PRECISELY::::::
Moon soil is composed by: 7% aluminum , 6%magnesium, 8% calcium, 13% iron, 21%silicon, 42% oxygen. 3%other substances...
Moon rocks consist chiefly of minerals containing aluminum, calcium, iron, magnesium, oxygen, silicon, and titanium. Hydrogen, helium, and other gases are trapped in some of the rocks.

Technically speaking it is not soil, as that is another name for earth. Otherwise pink lady is entirely correct!
