by teaching them what school doesnt. by actually listening and guiding them, and giving thorough explanations as to the wheres and whys of this and that.
by enforcing the carrot and stick principle.. yes you can... but after youve....
we often say no to our kids (we have 4) but, we also say yes once in a while. mop went to new york last year, nene went to barcelona the year before... it makes them appreciate what they have, and what their friends are missing.
money has nothing to do with it, (im in a wheelchair and were on benefit) its time, effort and a little understanding... a mere 35 years ago we were where they are now. the state school system was useless then, and its not much better now.
all they need is good maths skills, good english skills, and the ability to know where to look... if they dont know the answers they seek.. and schools dont teach that anymore.

My children went through what your grandchild is going through.
We have taken out our two children from school to home school (at their choice). We and our children were very frustrated at the pace of learning in school due to disruptive children.
We have asked them if they want to go back to school and both say that they learn more at home.
We have joined various clubs to make sure they spend time with children of their own age and they still see their school friends.
We are following the curriculum and have a timetable so that they are still disciplined. There is so much available on the web to help.

Be involved in your child's education. Know the school, the teachers, the other parents. Talk to your child. Make sure he attends school and is prompt. Read with your child...it's the best preparation any child can have to be successful in life.

My sons school has a progrmme for gifted children but your daughter could just extend his learning at home after school because school is also good for social skills.

Buy them a bible and read it to them. The best education is the one that prevents an eternity in hell.

By encouraging them to talk about it after school, get involved in their homework, set them extra tasks to try and complete. Stretch them.
