It depends on your gaming taste. If you like traditional gaming and standard Genres, the Xbox 360 is the system of your Choice. It has excellent Racing games like PGR3 or Test Drive Unlimited, Sport Games, Shooters like Gears of War and similar. Everything with the best all around Online-Functions, that I ever had.(yes, even better than on PC). However, Microsoft wants to be paid for this Matchmaking service through Xbox Live Gold (About $4 a Month).
Furthermore you get the Live Marketplace where you can download game Demos (try before you buy), movie trailers, Game add ons etc. for free.
And finally: Together with your PC the Xbox becomes a true Media Central. You can watch pictures and Movies or listen to MP3s that are stored on your PC.
Now for PS3. Similar to Xbox 360 you will get the same standard games in nice graphics. However, there is no standardized Online System. Every game has its own style of Matchmaking. On Xbox, I get a notification if one of my friends gets online. I can see on the Guide which game he is playing and instantly join his game and play with him.
Most games currently coming out for PS3 will also come out on Xbox, or are being cancelled for PS3 alltogether since the stagnating PS3 sales.
It's nice, that you get a Blue Ray Player. But in case HD DVD wins the Format War, you can put the PS3 right next to your Betamax VCR in the cellar.
If Blue Ray Wins, then Microsoft can still build an Blue Ray Add on Player for its Xbox console if needed.

Right now, I'd have to say the xbox 360 is by far a better console. It has a ton of great titles and the graphics are superior to the PS3.The only game worth picking up for a ps3 is Resistance. A year from now, it may be completely different though, it's hard to tell which system will do better.

PS3 will be better graphically but at the moment i would go for a Xbox 360, for the same price of a PS3 you could get the xbox with a ton of games and extras all of which the same games will be on the PS3 and there's nothing decent coming out on the PS3 till the end of the year so i'm waiting till then and enjoying the 360 now.

Wow, has to be the first time I've ever seen someone say that a controller feels better for an FPS over kbm. I don't think console gamers care because its about the identity of their console more than having the best system possible. A lot of PC users care about optimization not so much identity. If there's a processor or graphics card way better than any others well use it because we want the best, not so much concerned about brand loyalty as long as that brand isn't known for crap products.
